How the flock began

I created Raspberry flamingo towards the end of 2018 following a life changing accident in the summer of 2017.  Unsure how soon I would be mobile, I knew I needed to set up my next business from behind a laptop, so to speak.

I thought long and hard about what I enjoyed and looked back over my career. I then had a realisation.  Writing wasn’t just one element of all my previous jobs I had loved, but I’d always written.  I used to write journals… I used to write letters to friends as a kid… I’d taken a creative writing course… in fact, my very first job at an Advertising Agency taught me how to write copy.

My MA is in Communication Studies and I have taken so many additional courses on marketing over the years I’ve lost count.

Copywriting seemed like the most natural thing in the world to specialise in.

But what to call the company…

From a marketing perspective, people like company names that are self-explanatory.  Could Communicate Copywriting be the right name?

Do you know what, just saying it made my heart sink.

It sounded boring and corporate.  Not at all representative of me!

My friends always say I’m not a pink girl and I’m not purple … I’m more raspberry (comes from the hair colour!)

In fact, a friend said to me that ‘raspberry’ must be in the name. And when I went back to the journal that I’d scribbled possible names in, there it was… Raspberry Copywriting. 

But it still didn’t feel quite right.

I went to bed that evening and literally said in my head “will someone please tell me what to call this company”.

I woke the next morning and it was like someone spoke to me – ‘Raspberry Flamingo’ literally popped into my head.  I’ve never quite experienced anything like it.

I immediately text a friend who had built a large corporate business from the ground up and asked if it was the most stupid business name she had ever heard.

Her text reply read “At this moment I am drinking raspberry tea out of the flamingo mug you bought me.”  Deal sealed!

Raspberry Flamingo was born.

And the flamingo very quickly learned to fly.

Demand has been so great that not only does Raspberry Flamingo offer copywriting, but content marketing, strategic consultancy, and training courses – all detailed under the Services menu.   

And from just being little ol’ me… the flamingos have multiplied. I now have a small, hand-picked ‘flock’ of content and copy writers who work alongside me. Each have been chosen for their breadth of business experience coupled with their creative mindset.
